The Center for Career Development has begun a series of Financial Services Recruiting Nights, which allow students of all class years to speak with alumni and recruiters from a number of employers in the finance industry.

The first of these events was held in-person on Sept. 18 in Hogan, with a large turnout of students from every class year. This event gave students the opportunity to speak with representatives from Bank of America, Fidelity, JP Morgan, and Jefferies about recruiting, work-life balance, and any questions that students had about the finance industry. After some brief introductions, students were able to walk around to each employer and speak with Holy Cross alumni from each firm. Alumni at the event included Ted Lynch ’84 from Bank of America, Akeem Walcott ’19 from JP Morgan, Rob Fullerton ’90 & Liz Timmons ’21 from Jefferies, and more. The representatives spoke about how they spent their time as students at Holy Cross, how they got into their current careers, and gave tips to students looking to follow in their footsteps.

Sophomore Blake Bacas appreciated the insights that the alumni gave about their work experiences.

“I really enjoyed learning about each alum’s career path, and their roles and day-to day operations,” said Bacas.

Starting to network with alumni can be daunting, but events like the Finance Recruiting Nights are a good way to begin to make connections.

“All of the alumni were very helpful and knowledgeable, and knowing that we have a strong and enthusiastic alumni network makes me more confident about exploring a career in a field that can sometimes be considered hard to break into.”

Another Financial Services Recruiting Night will be held on Sept. 25 over Zoom, with a slew of other firms participating in the event. Firms at the second event will include Citi, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, UBS, and a number of others.

These events are some of the many resources provided by the Center for Career Development, with the Financial Services Recruiting Nights being especially tailored for the Business, Consulting, and Finance career community. Students can join a number of career communities to find internships, jobs, and network with alumni in fields that they are interested in. They are one of the many great ways that the Career Center can assist students in their career paths. Other resources include drop-in office hours for resumes and cover letters, interview practice, headshots, and meetings with career advisors.
