The CoCurricular Extravaganza kicked off another year of student-led projects, teams, and creative activities. This week, with the start of club meetings, you can catch Crusaders on the field or on the court. Clubs are a great way to socialize and meet people with common interests. Although this week has only started with some info-sessions, it is heartwarming to see people try so many new things in this nice fall weather.

The temperature is decreasing, but the team spirit is increasing, especially on the turf. Club Field Hockey player Alicia Choquette says, “It’s very fun to be able to get on the field and just have fun with very little pressure.” Here at Holy Cross, sports allow for a lot of fun energy, but the fun is not limited to the stands. Club sports are a great way to get outside, meet new people, and play what you love. Try an intramural sport as well! Getting a team together with friends and playing pickleball, basketball, or volleyball at the Jo are very fun and accessible activities. Club sports are not the only clubs out there.

This week was the beginning of HerCampus, SEALS, Peer Educators, Women in Econ, and much more! HerCampus and Women in Econ both offer resources for female students to work together and display their talents. Clubs can be extremely enriching when combined with academic settings. For instance, Moot Court is a great way to learn about the law, and it can be a great factor when thinking about post-college life. Henry Noonan ‘27, a new Moot Court member, comments, “… I joined as a way to prepare for law school, but I can already tell I’m going to love it and make awesome friends, and I can’t wait for more… ” Even if students have no interest in becoming a lawyer, it can be highly valuable in gaining a well-rounded skill set. This is why embracing new activities and interests can be beneficial no matter your specific academic plan. Sports clubs and scholastic interests are not the only things offered here at Holy Cross.

Getting a chance to try something you have never done before and taking a break from a stressful workload can be a great opportunity for social activity. After joining WCHC Broadcasting, Onora Healey ‘27 commented, “I didn’t have any broadcasting experience but I went for fun and now I have my own show. I’m so excited!” Check out Healey’s brand-new radio show coming soon! Trying new things is a part of life, and definitely a part of college. Clubs and activities help us to celebrate students’ accomplishments and discover hidden passions that may lead to greater interests.
