The Study Abroad Browsing Session was held in the Hive of the Prior Performing Arts Center on September 5. The fair allowed students to hear about opportunities, stories, and more interesting topics related to the study abroad programs offered by College of the Holy Cross. With more than 44 programs in 25 countries, students have the opportunity to participate in a range of experiences abroad, from the visual arts scene of Europe to the vast landscapes of Asia. The fair provided students the opportunity to find out finite details about each of the programs and discern which is the best fit.
Some students were so excited that they began planning their next four years around studying abroad. Patrick Ryan ‘27 says “as a freshman, the fair allowed me to find out more about the programs Holy Cross has to offer. It also allowed me to plan out my credits these next two years so I can enjoy my study abroad experience during my junior year.” Many students like Ryan left feeling more prepared to study abroad. “Before I wasn’t sure where I might want to go, but now I know Italy is the place for me,” he says. The fair also talked about statistics: 304 students are abroad this year. Students found the idea of going abroad more digestible after finding out that it is a major part of the College’s community.
Students also valued the opportunity to speak to seniors who studied abroad last year. One Study Abroad Ambassador, Owen Whaley ‘24, represented Scotland’s University of St Andrews. When asked about his experience across the pond, he says it “was one of the most transformative experiences of my life” and that he is “excited to continue encouraging others to take the leap as I work with the Study Abroad Office over the rest of the year.” During the fair, he answered students’ questions about everyday life, academic rigor, and how he fared with being so far from friends and family.
The fair was the perfect opportunity to find out if you’re ready to experience a program like no other. Sofia Baldez Duque Ribeiro ‘27 says, “After I went to the Study Abroad Fair, it was a no brainer… I will be attending a study abroad program come my junior year at Holy Cross.”
