Recently, Olga Khazan of The Atlantic interviewed Holy Cross graduate Dr. Anthony Fauci, ‘62. Anthony Fauci is a well-known immunologist and physician who has worked with the Reagan, Clinton, Bush, and Obama administrations; he is the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. In this interview, Dr. Fauci addresses his previous experience with administrations, his views on vaccinations and important medical issues, and how he consistently remains an apolitical physician to present evidence to each administration.
Current President Trump expresses anti-vaccination sentiments. Dr. Fauci discusses how he will approach this discrepancy with the President and how he approached HIV/AIDs with other administrations. Right now, the current administration seeks to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would result in slashing a key infectious disease fund, cutting HIV/AIDs relief programs among other things.
