Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Army West Point
Last Saturday, the Crusaders lost 10-4 at home against Patriot League opponent Navy. Navy struck first, scoring two goals in the first quarter. The score remained 2-0 for the remainder of the first quarter. However, Holy Cross’s Henry Lilly put the Crusaders on the scoreboard after only 14 seconds had transpired in the second quarter. Navy would go back on the offensive and scored two more goals, making the score 4-1. Holy Cross’s Marc Buermann found the back of the net with a little less than eight minutes remaining in the first half. Navy would end the half with another goal of their own, putting the score at 5-2 heading to the locker rooms.
The second half witnessed Navy pulling ahead. Holy Cross ceded three consecutive goals in the beginning of the third quarter. Matthew Fischetti scored with a little more than four minutes left in the third quarter, but Navy held a 10-3 lead heading into the final quarter of the game. Two minutes into the final quarter, Marc Buermann scored his second goal of the day, bringing the final score to 10-4. The Crusaders freshman goalie Jonathan Tesoro had eight saves on the day.
Women’s Lacrosse Comes up Short Against Lehigh
Last Saturday the Crusaders lost 10-3 at home against Lehigh in their first Patriot League game of the season. The Crusaders scored the first goal of the game when senior Tess MacKay scored with a little over 15 minutes left to play in the first half. Lehigh responded by scoring four straight goals, which put them ahead 4-1 heading into the second half. Senior Mary Patalita scored the first goal of the second half to cut the lead to 4-2. Lehigh responded with six unanswered goals to put the game out of reach.
Lehigh retained the 10-2 lead for a majority of the half until junior Kerrianne Moran scored with a little over seven minutes left in the game. Lehigh outshot Holy Cross 38-17 and Holy Cross’s goalie and captain Julia Maloney posted 14 saves on the day. The Crusaders look to pick up a win against Patriot League rival Navy when they travel to Maryland on Saturday.
