Senate Segment

Event Updates: The holiday social media campaign “All We Want for Christmas is You” launched last week. This was part of our year-long goal to bring more publicity to the Senate and to make students aware of what we do on campus.

Off Campus Christmas Decorating Contest was judged on Dec. 8 in partnership with PKS. The winning house received a $200 discount for 100 Days Ball tickets.

Position Paper: Off-campus position paper last week, which outlined our concern about the off-campus housing cap that was imposed for the Class of 2018. We are currently working with the SGA Executive Cabinet to bring student awareness to this issue.

New Initiatives: Senator Holly Nord ’17 is finalizing a plan to construct lockers in the Science Building. Students will be able to keep their belongings in a locker to avoid leaving valuables out in the library. We hope that the lockers will be constructed by second semester.

Parliamentarian Cam Aenlle-Rocha ’17 is working on replacing the Student Union with an RSO Lobbying Association. As it currently stands, the Student Union suffers from a lack of interest in student groups, and a subsequent lack of attendance. The RSO Lobbying Association will have three meetings per year to discuss RSO training, re-recognition, and the next year’s budget.
