The doors to the Hart Center have once again opened up for hockey season. The new seasons bring renewed excitement for players and fans alike. Let’s take a look at both HC programs as they return to the ice. 

The women’s team has already played in 6 games since opening on Sept. 30. In those contests, they have compiled a 2-4-0 record on the young season. Four of those match-ups have been Hockey East matchups, in which the team went 1-3-0. The Crusaders faced stiff competition in those games, playing two games each against Vermont and Providence. Vermont is ranked 14th in the nation, while Providence comes in one spot behind at 15th. Still, HC was able to come away with a win against Vermont. Despite the record, they have shown they can compete with anyone in the league. 

Leading the way on the stat sheet is newcomer Alexia Moreau ’26. The first-year leads the team in goals with three on the season and is tied for the lead in points as well. In goal, playing duties have been split between Madison Beck ’24 and Brooke Loranger ’26 . Beck posted a .911 save percentage in eight games last season. In four games this year, she has posted a .921 save percentage, and backstopped the win against Vermont. In three games, Loranger has posted a .923 save percentage. 

One of the biggest storylines for the upcoming season is the rivalry game against Boston University, tentatively scheduled for Jan. 6. Why? Because that game will be played outdoors at Fenway Park. The game is a part of Frozen Fenway, a series of college matchups to be played in the days after the Boston Bruins take part in the NHL’s Winter Classic game at Fenway. Players will certainly have the game circled on their calendars, as should students and fans. There is business to be taken care of before then though, as the team will be back in action on Oct. 21 against St. Lawrence.

The HC men’s team has also dropped the puck on the season, having already played four games. After an energetic exhibition win against Boston College at the Hart Center, the team has gone winless in the first four contests of the season against good competition in #3 ranked North Dakota and Atlantic Hockey rivals Sacred Heart. Still, the season remains young and there is ample time for the team to find their groove. 

This is head coach Bill Riga’s second year as bench boss, who will be looking to make major progress in year two. The team finished in last place in Atlantic Hockey last season which poses the opportunity for a bounce back season. Back with a year of experience under his belt, Riga will have his squad locked in to make a splash this year. 

The start of the HC hockey season is officially underway, which means it’s time to pack the Hart Center. The women’s team is back at Hart on Oct. 29 while the men’s squad is back on Nov. 18 after a long road trip. Make sure to show up and show out for the Crusaders!
