From the Editors’ Desk
Today, Friday November 16, the College will embark on an experimental campus-wide conversation aimed at addressing some of the most pressing issues facing our Holy Cross community. While no one quite knows what exactly will unfold this afternoon, the inaugural ENGAGE Summit commissioned by Fr. Boroughs in response to a letter penned and signed by members of the Holy Cross community represents an unprecedented step by the administration in tackling issues surrounding our campus culture, including sexual assault and hate. At an institution where decision making often historically comes from the top down––starting with the board of trustees––this bottom-up campaign spearheaded by students, faculty, and alumni is all the more significant. With many of the details of the summit still a mystery as of Wednesday afternoon, it’s hard to say if the event will begin to make a dent in the issues facing our community, never mind solve them. Regardless, the action itself and designation of over three uninterrupted hours for meaningful conversation is symbolic. The Editors-in-Chief of the Spire urge each and every member of our campus community to engage with one of the sessions offered this afternoon. Now that we have the administration’s attention, we must turn out today and seize this opportunity to continue to make our voices be heard.
