Club Sports Take Care of Business

It was a busy weekend for some of the club sports on and off campus.  The Men’s Club Rugby team traveled to Stonehill College on Friday and picked up their first win of the season.  Coming off a tough loss to Southern Connecticut the previous weekend, the team took care of business beating Stonehill 41-15 to improve to 1-1 in league play.  The team will travel to UMass Lowell (1-1) on Saturday for their next game.  Kickoff will be at 7 P.M.  Their next home game is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2 P.M. versus Saint Michael’s College down on Freshman Field.

On campus, the Club Baseball team hosted Yale on Fitton Field for a doubleheader on Sunday.  In the first game, Frank Sommers ’19 went seven innings striking out ten batters.  Holy Cross capitalized on a six-run 6th inning to take a 7-1 lead.  They would hold on to win 7-6.

In the second game, the team scored ten runs in the 6th inning that broke an 8-8 tie.  Ryan Sinclair ’20 led the club with 3 RBIs to complete the sweep.  The team improved to 3-1 on the season.  They will travel to Lynn, MA for the NECBA Showcase against UMass Lowell on Friday Sept. 23.   Their next home game is scheduled for Oct.16 and will be a doubleheader versus Connecticut.

Up on the Astroturf, the Women’s Club Field Hockey team hosted UMaine.  Hana Ferrari ‘19 scored the lone goal of the game for the club.  CeCe Garner ‘19 blocked all shots that came her came way, as the team defeated UMaine 1-0.  The team will host Emmanuel up on the Astroturf on Oct. 2 at 6 P.M.
